Welcome to the official website of the Buckhorn Sports Pad!

The Buckhorn Sports Pad is a free year-round hockey rink and sports pad that is run by local volunteers.  The Buckhorn Outdoor Rink and Sports Pad is owned by the Municipality of Trent Lakes on land that is leased from the Buckhorn Community Centre.  In the summer months, the sports pad offers outdoor activities such as ball hockey, roller skating, pickle ball, basketball, etc. In the winter months it is very busy with family ice skating and hockey.

*** ICE STATUS ***

The Sports Pad will not be opening this winter season.

Peterborough Public Health has indicated mask wearing and vaccination QR code verification requirements apply to the Sports Pad facility. At this time there is no Municipal Staff availability to verify these requirements.

In addition, Ontario Government Covid restrictions and gradual reopening, coupled with the extremely short remaining natural ice season make it difficult to justify ice making.

Solution: Refrigerated ice for our Sports Pad and dedicated Municipal Staff to help run it.

Your Sports Pad desperately needs a cooling system! The winters are becoming shorter and such large fluctuations in the weather are becoming a problem.

The Buckhorn Sports Pad is looking for some more volunteers to join our group.

We are an active, community minded group of residents that manage the outdoor facility located adjacent to the Buckhorn Community Center.

We could always use help with volunteers for:

  1. Assist with maintenance and ice making functions. Working with other volunteers to ensure that the ice is ready and the facility is in good working order.
  2. Rink Patrol and Safety Ambassadors. You can enjoy skating while ensuring that participants are following the guidelines for use.  This is especially needed during the Family Skate times.  This is a great opportunity for Senior High School Students to get their volunteer hours!!

To volunteer, contact Pete Clarkson at 705-741-9913 or use the Contact page.

We are very flexible on volunteer hours. Please give us a call.

Note:   Volunteers need to have or obtain a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Background Check through the OPP.
Costs for the background check are paid for by the Municipality.

CALL FOR HELP! We are looking for volunteers to help run kids sport events.  It is a casual, flexible and fun commitment.  If you have the time and can volunteer, please contact Pete Clarkson at 705-741-9913 or use our Contact page.
